email: ginzburg(at)math.ucsc.edu, phone: 459-2218
- Office Hours: M 1:45-3:00pm, T 3:00-4:00pm or by appointment
- Tentative Syllabus: The main theme of this course is
classical Riemannian geometry. The topics to be covered include
Riemannian metrics, connections and parallel transport,
geodesics, the exponential map, the curvature tensor, Jacobi fields,
complete manifolds. At the end of this course we will discuss
connections between Riemannian geometry and topology of manifolds (the
Hadamard theorem and the Gauss--Bonnet theorem).
- Coursework: There will be weekly homework sets and a take-home final.
